Nursing Home Abuse & Injuries
- Q: What do I do if I think my family member has been neglected in their nursing home or assisted living facility?
A: There are several things that you can do. The State of Maryland has a Long Term Care Ombudsman Program to assist residents of nursing homes and assisted living facilities. Contact the ombudsman for your county and file a complaint. The website for the program is: http://www.mdoa.state.md.us/ombudsman.html The State of Maryland's Office of Health Care Quality is charged, among other things, with inspecting and monitoring long-term care facilities. File a complaint with the Office of Health Care Quality. Their website is: http://dhmh.state.md.us/ohcq/ You can also contact an attorney who is experienced in handling these types of cases. The attorney should gather pertinent medical records for review. If a review of the records indicates that the medical care may have been negligent then the attorney should arrange for an expert review of the file.
